We know how to solve knife crime, and it's not with a fried chicken box

Violent crime, and knife crime in particular, is of huge concern to communities.

It is not as if we don’t know what works when it comes to knife crime. Glasgow has shown the way with the introduction of the public health approach. Of course vulnerable young people need to hear the right messages about the dangers of knife crime, but that involves personal contact. The youth service is pivotal – both in literally keeping young people off the streets, but also in communicating with them in an ongoing way in a manner that an empty fried chicken box cannot. But, since the 2011 riots alone, the number of youth clubs in London have been halved.
