I've walked past The Bank Bar & Grill on Corporation Street in Blackpool countless times over the past couple of years. And my overriding thought has always been, "is that place ever NOT rammed?"
I'll preface this by admitting that I have never eaten at The Savoy, but I have been fortunate enough to dine at some of the finest restaurants in Lancashire, including Michelin-Starred Moor Hall and White Swan at Fence. But does Bank offer equally as good decent scran? Every now and again it feels good to eat a proper dirty burger, and this one, with the seasoned chunky Cumbrian patty slightly pink and smothered in rich melted cheese achieved that with a single bite. It is topped by a sweet and almost fruity relish of onion, tomato, lettuce and inch-thick rasher or two of salty bacon, all tucked between a fluffy brioche bun.
However, I had a refreshing fruity mocktail that reminded me of a Solero lolly. The burger is a best-seller and was recommended by my waitress, while her fellow server Dean had me at "it's Ricardo's twist on his grandma's recipe" when talking through the desserts, so I got no further than the Tiramisu .
My only niggly gripe with Bank is that the interior looks a little tired and dated and could do with a few strokes of paint, but it was a pleasant, open and airy space with a cracking soundtrack. Who doesn't love a bit of Spice Girls to tap their foot to over lunch?
