Israel has largely destroyed Hamas strongholds in northern Gaza, one expert told i, but much of its infrastructure remains intact elsewhere

However, Hamas has continued to launch rockets at Israeli cities throughout the bombardment. Warnings were issued for a heavy salvo in southern Israel on Wednesday night.that the campaign was delivering results but acknowledged that Hamas still retained threats that were influencing Israel’s plans.

“Hamas is currently in a state of disarray. They have no idea what’s going on above ground and they are hiding in the heart of their terrorist infrastructure in Gaza City.” Hamas surprised Israeli strategists with the scale of the deadly raids on 7 October and it is thought to retain significant threats despite the aerial campaign.

“It is difficult to see how Israel’s campaign against Hamas can really be accomplished, at least in the terms they have laid out,” said Dr HA Hellyer, senior associate fellow in international security studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Royal United Services Institute.
