Belfast City Council

The USPCA have called for a rigorous investigation

The youngster was with other children at a waste ground site in North Belfast at the time.

Nora Smith, CEO of the USPCA, said she was appalled by the incident. She said: "This was reported to the USPCA by a member of the public who was deeply upset after seeing the video footage on social media. "The video footage has rightly caused shock and horror. The individual had no regard for the animal’s welfare or the damage this incident could have caused.

A spokesperson for the PSNI, said: "Police received a report on Tuesday 9th April, that a video had been posted online concerning a kitten. The boy in the video has been identified and an investigation regarding animal cruelty is now underway, being conducted by Animal Welfare at Belfast City Council. Police are also working closely with our colleagues in Council in relation to the matter.
