In one study, 189 participants were given either 1,000mg of the pain reliever - the recommended dose to treat a headache - or a placebo drug.
The researchers found that those under the influence of paracetamol rated activities like walking home alone at night in an unsafe area, skydiving, bungee jumping and switching careers in your 30s as less risky than those who took the placebo. The students had to click a button on the computer to inflate a virtual balloon, each time they inflated it they were rewarded with virtual money.
Way's team found those who had taken paracetamol were more likely to carry on trying to inflate the balloon, pumping the more times than those on the placebo, and bursting more balloons.
