Post-Brexit migrant salary plans 'would hit Wales harder'

Prof Portes said there was a worry the UK would be"a less attractive destination for skilled European migrants when free movement ends"

He said"quite a few European migrants who are doing what you might call semi-skilled or medium-skilled jobs", such as manufacturing, would be caught by the £30,000 threshold. "We are making every effort to understand the specific needs of the whole of the UK, which is why we are engaging with business, devolved administrations and the public about our plans throughout 2019."Radnor Hills is helping its migrant workers complete the necessary paperwork to stay in the UKWater and soft drinks bottling company Radnor Hills, in Knighton, Powys, relies on migrant workers for about 75% of its staff.

HackneyAbbott Japan needs to stop killing Whales

HackneyAbbott A bit of good news for a change.

We need to encourage our own to work rather than have benefits, if there’s lots of migrants taking jobs that means jobs are available. In other countries the jobs go to their citizens first and then migrants if can’t be filled

migrant salary-translate on the cheap

HackneyAbbott £30000? Government is way out of touch...

How about a minimum £30k for our own skilled workers?

HackneyAbbott

Oh those poor bosses having to increase their wages instead of relying on immigrants they can get away with exploiting, isn't Brexit awful

So......we can have migrants, as long as we pay them more than our own people.........You can see the headlines already from the brexit loons...'migrants steal our jobs...stop migration. Bring back control'......Whats next build a wall round the country and fill it with water?

The country needs appropriate migration lacking the skills amongst the indemic population in the numbers needed how would the required housing get built just one example. Where would the billion and multi millionaires come from to invest in Britain another example.

just means you need to pay local workers the proper salary for that role instead of cheap workers from another country

its a great idea. britain is full and we have a housing crisis made worse by uncontrolled immigration.

Great

maybe then he shouldn't rely on cheaper foreign workers then...
