Vatican will open investigation into George Pell’s child sex crimes

The Vatican has announced it will investigate Cardinal George Pell following his conviction for child sex abuse. Pell, 77, who was in December convicted of molesting two choirboys in 1996, spent his first night in prison on Wednesday. The Vatican confirmed Pell, who was third in command of the Catholic Church and once considered a pope in waiting, was under investigation by the the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith.
