The introduction of new banknotes featuring King Charles III's portrait has inadvertently created an opportunity for scammers to introduce counterfeit notes into circulation.
In 2023, data compiled by the Bank of England and Raisin UK revealed that a total of 116,000 counterfeit banknotes with a face value of £2.5 million were removed from circulation. He said: "For the foreseeable future, both Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III banknotes will be circulating. Security features are present on all of these notes, allowing you to check notes to prevent forgeries." When you tilt a holographic image on a banknote from side to side, you should see the denomination word change. For example, on a £5 note, the word changes between 'Five' and 'Pounds'.
