Appeals, which have to be submitted through schools, should be completed by 7 September, allowing students who get improved grades to take up places this autumn.
Ms Donelan said she recognised the need for universities to be fair towards"students who are highly talented in schools or colleges that have not in the past had strong results". But despite these concerns - and the change of heart in Scotland - there are no signs of any change in using a similar approach to moderating results in England.
But results will not be as generous as teachers' predictions, which would have pushed up results by 12 percentage points - with these predictions able to be shared with pupils after the results are published. BBCPolitics Why are the 'exam' results only being issued at their normal times when the information used to arrive at these results was available to the examination boards much earlier than would normally be the case?
Lets see how representative these grades actually are. Giving students their predicted grades is ridiculous. We know universities are being flexible only because they dont want students deferring till next year. What a mess! I feel sorry for next years a-level students
