It has been an emotional week for primary school headteacher Kate Baptiste: “I have actually cried,” she says. She is scared that the government will announce today that schools will reopen next month – even though it could be dangerous to do so. “I’m used to making decisions that are rooted in what is best for the children. This is all out of my hands, and it’s terrifying.”
Teachers should be keen to reopen schools as soon as it is considered safe to do so. Sadly the teaching trade union is determined to undermine the U.K. economy by refusing to do so and even pushing for all schools to be closed until September.
Some HTs face terrible ethical dilemmas too. Imagjne a school where 50% of students are free school meals, food vouchers aren’t working, some homeless, some live in unsafe homes. These students depend on school. But opening school places them, the other 50% & staff at risk.
My child isnt going back until there is mass testing/tracing or a vaccine
The toll that is most notable is on teachers and students. Both are being worked more than a normal school day would require.
thats a small bell for a huge toll
It is really an issue hard to solve. On the one hand, youngsters need to go to school learning how to learn, how to invent and how to discover. And on the other hand, more people are getting infected, if we let them go back to school, there is a huge risk of rapidly spreading.
It's simple. Can't risk the lives of your staff or the children. They stay closed.
My son is not going back to school til September!
