The heat is forecast to move into the south of the country early next week.
According to the Met Office, temperatures could potentially soar to 34C on Wednesday and Thursday - bringing"hot and humid" conditions. A warm weather system is also going to take hold on the continent. Parts of southern Spain and southern France could see temperatures exceed 40C - weeks after they reached a record-breaking 45.9C in Gallargues-le-Montueux.Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said:"Temperatures will build in Europe and are expected to rise to the high 30s and 40s.
Unfortunately, forecasters believe there will be a north-south divide, with northwestern parts of the UK experiencing spells of rain - which could be heavy at times - as well as strong winds, bringing a risk of coastal gales.
