Tourists could be handed the hefty fine for making this one seemingly innocent act

UK holidaymakers are being warned that they could face a hefty fines of £2,500 if they bring back certain 'souvenirs' from the Canary Islands. The large fine could be given to tourists for doing something that seems harmless enough.

Warnings have been given to UK travellers not to fill up a jar with sand from the beaches or pick up stones. Taking sand, rocks and pebbles from some beaches in the Canary Islands is not allowed.According to The Canarian Weekly, the Spanish islands are struggling as they're losing 'natural material'. Beaches in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura seem to be the most affected, with tourists taking home 'tons of natural materials as souvenirs every year', reports Birmingham Live.
