Millions of people across the UK are set to enjoy 'the warmest day in a month' later this week, latest forecasts suggest. Storm Anotni hit many areas of the UK with wind gusts up to 78mph, while torrential downpours hit Nottinghamshire throughout Saturday, August 5.
The miserable start to August is a stark contrast to last summer where a prolonged spell of scorching hot weather led to a drought being declared. This week, temperatures could reach the highest level in a month. National reports suggest parts of the UK are predicted to enjoy 28C highs on Thursday, August 10. For Nottingham, current estimates suggest we won't quite reach this, with highs of 25C in the forecast for the city, according to the Met Office.
The hot weather is expected to return to the low 20s within just 24 hours, however. Met Office forecasts show Friday, August 11 is expected to see highs of 22C, while Saturday will fall to 20C and rain is expected. Discussing the overall UK forecast, Sky weather producer Joanna Robinson said: "A southerly flow will allow temperatures to rise above average, by day and night, with a high of around 28C likely on Thursday. However, it will be short-lived, with rain moving through on Friday, returning the cooler airmass that's been dominating."
