UK's most senior BAME cop 'horrified' by George Floyd's death and urges us all to 'do better' in personal message

Mr Floyd died after a white police officer pressed his knee into neck for almost nine minutes.rallies, has been “particularly shattering”.In the message, Mr Basu said the death ofAnd now, he said, is the time for change.“We can be better than this, and we must be better than this.

The best example of this in the UK, he said, is the number of young black men in the criminal justice system. “They have a point. We need to listen to our communities, and our people, and focus on what we in the UK can do better.”Maddie suspect told of 'horrible job to do in Praia' the night before she vanishedTOP OF THE CLASSPM vows to restore flights to EU & even Dubai & Sydney to save summer holsHAVE YOU SEEN THEM?He added: “Above all, we must retain the key value so grimly absent as George Floyd died. Compassion.

In 1993, as I took my first independent patrol, I had my doubts about the organisation I had just joined. Doubts that it would become the professional, open and caring institution it is today. The damning findings and recommendations of that inquiry are etched into the fabric of UK policing’s history - but the positive outcomes, hard won, are real. Our progress since has not been smooth, either, with missteps and setbacks along the way. Each setback is heart-breaking and despite how far we have come we must confront the fact that with many of our communities – especially the black community - we still have a long way to go.

And so we cannot directly compare policing in the UK to that of our counterparts in the USA. But what we are seeing in America, and here in the UK, too, is anger directed not just at police brutality but the racial bias built into the very fabric of our institutions and society - perhaps best illustrated in the UK by the huge disparity in young black men in the criminal justice system.

Oh look, a senior black cop. I thought the country was WAYYYYYCISSTT.

Enforce the law thats what he is paid for

Does doing better entail going rampaging through the streets smashing up shops?

I hope that includes racism of every type and not just that committed by white people. Muslim grooming gangs for instance EllaHillUK

No worse than what's been happening under his nose in London. Black on black knife killings are off the scale but he chooses to ignore that for a bit of empty virtue signalling.
