This summer, Paris is set to be flooded with hundreds of thousands of tourists as it hosts the 33rd Olympic games.
Typically, this fee will be collected at the check-in desk when you arrive at your accommodation or destination so watch out for scams where bogus travel agencies ask for the tax before you've even boarded your flight to the French capital, reports Gloucestershire Live. Although the cost per person may seem relatively low, it can quickly mount up if you're travelling as a group of four, as the charge in Paris is made per person per night.
Despite Paris now officially having one of the highest tourist tax brackets in all of Europe, it seems that the awareness of the new tourist charges remains low for a city that is soon to become the most talked about location on Earth over the summer. With the Olympics being centre stage of the world for two-and-a-half weeks over the summer, it is important that the city of Paris manages to get every aspect right, from housing spectators in accommodation all the way through to logistics.
Despite the need for additional services to be run throughout the course of the games, this is more than double the initial €200m that was originally deemed enough to fund the added public transport throughout the Olympics.
