Latest gross domestic product figures show UK gross domestic product growing by 0.3% in the third quarter of the year, following the 0.2% contraction in Q2.
The German economy - Europe's largest - looks like it will drop into recession when its analogous figures are published later this week, while Italy has been on the brink of contraction for some time. Starting with the overall figure, which was weaker than expected, and extending to the annual growth rate, which is, at 1%, the weakest in a decade, the statistics paint a picture of an economy which is growing at well below par.
So not only is growth slow, business investment was flat in the third quarter and so was the manufacturing sector.Most of the detail from the latest GDP figures is rather disappointing
