Covid-19 isn’t the only virus that can be combated by social distancing, and one byproduct of the lockdown has been to reduce the incidence of a variety of other conditions, my colleague Haroon Siddique reports. Flu, colds, bronchitis and a number of other viruses all appear to be in lower circulation than usual this summer, according to the research by the Royal College of GPs.

You do know schools have stayed open for key workers including my children who went everyday. Guess what zero infections because us parents were careful. If we all do as we are told mask up and shut up it will be fine

What about in the hallways? The cafeteria? The basketball court? The football field? The garden? The freaking school bus? It's unlikely the education secretary will ever understand how schools work.

That's not a correct statement. Turns out Mr Williamson was not a fireplace salesman in a former life but an epidemiologist. Children going back to school is a priority but to make the Trumpian statement the disease is unlikely to spread in the classroom is incorrect.

US, Germany, Australia and Israel have all reopened schools using a similar model. It failed. Many schools closed within weeks, with numerous cases reported. Why will UK schools prove any different?

That's definitely true. Children notoriously stay clear of each other and respect personal space. It's a well known fact that children are entirely respectful of boundaries.

Anyone who has ever taught knows that schools are excellent vectors for all sorts of bugs and viruses. I'm not overly sure what the evidence is that Covid-19 is not likely to spread in school settings

This research seems to be based on the summer term when only two year groups were in school in secondaries and we could safely social distance. Is there a link to this study anywhere?
