BREAKING: Malik Faisal Akram, 44, from Blackburn, was shot dead on Saturday after taking prisoners at the synagogue in Colleyville on Saturday.

Two men have been arrested in Birmingham and Manchester as part of the investigation into a hostage standoff at a Texas synagogue.

The daylong siege at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue, about 16 miles northeast of Fort Worth, ended in gunfire. US officials believe Akram had a visa, arrived at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York around two weeks ago.Akram could be heard demanding the release of convicted terrorist Aafia Siddiqui Akram is understood to have arrived in the US with a visa and allegedly got his weapons ‘on the street’
