A 73-year-old passenger in a Mercedes C220 was pronounced dead at the scene near the Kings Park Hotel in Rutherglen and the 80-year-old driver passed away a short time later at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.READ MORE: Bounty on head of gangsters behind attack on Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel's houseAn eye witness described the scene as "a sea of blue lights", and it remains closed while accident investigators conduct their enquiries.

Road policing officers are appealing for information, Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who died as a result of this incident.
