Troops training to drive ambulances as ministers hold emergency strikes meetings

airports to check passports as Border Control staff are set to go on strike over Christmas.

Nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, who are members of the Royal College of Nursing, will go on strike for the first time ever on Thursday and again on 20 December. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly told Sky News on Sunday unions should negotiate with the independent pay review bodies, not with ministers.'Will health secretary talk to nurses to avert strikes?'The prime minister's spokesman said:"The government has played its part by facilitating a fair and decent offer and the RMT and its members should vote this deal through and end this harmful disruption.

It’s outrageous Liz. A national disgrace.

She would say that wouldn’t she as her party is funded by the unions.

jessphillips SteveBarclay is using bully boy tactis hence no negotiations=strike action Conservatives are totally unfit to govern this country.

Barclay wants the strikes, he wants discord, that's what this Tory government wants. They are happy because they think people will say 'thank goodness' when privatisation follows. There will be a 2-tier health system & we know the monied will be in the top tier & the rest of us

Do not vote at all, don't vote red tory and let the blue tory win . Kier is racist and they will sell the nhs..

BrexitDisaster unfolding; without the EU in the picture, all form of executive overreach and posturing is allowable, no matter the damage to society at large.

It’s not his job, it’s the NHS’s job

Are they being trained to offer the life saving treatment paramedics give as well? That's a no, they'll just drive people to hospital then sit outside with them for 8 hours unable to unload and unable to care for them. ToryShambles supportnurses

When I served in the Army, I had to step in as an Ambulance driver. They showed me how to drive the vehicle, and within 2 hours I was ready. I have a heavy goods license, and I also have tracked vehicle license.

Why don't supermarket workers, who earn minimum wage, to be treated as pond scum by customers, go on strike..?

Good job

Those poor troops enlisted to kill Afghani children and goat herders😥

Ambulance strike? Who will notice? They haven't turned up for years.

If the Tories put as much energy into an intelligent negotiated settlement that puts right the effectively inflation adjusted 20% loss in wages for these public sector critical workers we all depended on during Covid instead of trying to break them we might get somewhere sensible

Hey troops, you’re on the wrong side. You’re one of us. These elite hate you.

Thatcher all over again in trying to break the Unions who are the ONLY organisations that can hold a government to account - will the TUC stand by once [again]?

Where are the Green Goddesses?

Comcast meanwhile are raking in the cash.. the media in the UK is the enemy of the people

Anyone can drive but there will be still trouble with patient care while waiting at A & E entrances.

There are 'spare' ambulances to train on ?

Rather than pay people a living wage , what a sht hole

Maybe Tory ministers should take offer of talks and suspension of strikes rather than overseeing a collapse of public services for their own agenda

Why are we not seeing mitary field hospitals next to hospitals as the Crises hits new levels every day that cld stream off the less urgent cases surely anything is worth trying if there's no space or ward beds. OK weather is a factor just now but the crises appears hellish.

I hate Unions.

Being trained to do what? Sit in a stationary ambulance in a queue outside a hospital? Some waiting times reported are longer than the average driver's shift!!

Shtrikebreackerrs units?

Good. Stand firm.

About time the troops got a decent wage

Are they also getting a 3 year degree in paramedic science?

Troops working under tougher conditions, less favourable hours, restricted times with families and cuts to pensions and pay freezes for years…. They come in to allow people to strike… what a shambles by those striking Embarrassment to their profession

Aren’t the troops fully occupied strike breaking the Boarder Force strikes?

Would it not be easier and better for everyone involved if they just negotiated a decent pay rise for them. It's as if they will do anything but give them a pay rise. Insane.

Ambulance crews are much much more than drivers! Not skills that can be acquired over night!

You say the same shit every year..

Strikes: Decision on training troops to drive ambulances 'not far off'Government sources said that a decision from the Department of Health and Social Care could come as early as this weekend as ambulance workers are set to strike on 21 and 28 December. Unions love to hold normal citizens hostage until they get their way. Feel for the military personnel having to step in. Most are on lower pay and just like the police they aren’t allowed to strike. Need a nationwide strike to rid us of this shambolic government
