The death of former Birkenhead MP Frank Field has prompted tributes from former constituents and admirers across the political spectrum.
Lord Field was often referred to as a "maverick" because of his independent-minded approach to politics. The ECHO's political editor, Liam Thorp spoke for many when he said: "Frank ploughed his own furrow and sometimes that upset people - but on issues of poverty, hunger and deprivation he was a titanic force for good.
Others highlighted the work he did for his constituents in Birkenhead. Jeanette Woods said: "Lovely man, helped so many people in Birkenhead." Some people mentioned examples of how the former MP had helped them in the past. Writing on Twitter/X, a former constituent said: "He stepped in when I was wrongly issued hundreds of pounds of tax fines as a student, writing to the Head of HMRC and sorting it out. Whatever one thinks of his politics, he was a dedicated constituency MP who always responded to my emails and letters."
