Face masks and gloves will cost more from the end of this month after the government said a temporary waiver of VAT on personal protective equipment would not be extended, the Guardian has learned.
Vile!
Say whaaaaaaaaaat
This really hits the care sector. NHS / businesses can recover the VAT as normal, care homes can't. As for individuals buying, the suppliers could absorb the extra in their exorbitant prices, but probably won't. And my contempt for this 'government' knows no bounds.
But now that we’re leaving EU we won’t need VAT?
Comparable to VAT on sanitary products, it really takes a profound lack of sensitivity to levy tax on the only slight protection we have against a pandemic that has killed 44000 and rising in the UK. Hard to rank against letting children go hungry, but of a piece with it...
Waaaait wait wait. The government gives hospitals money for PPE The government also gives out contracts for PPE manufacturers, which they've given their friends. They're ending the Vat waiver, so hospitals get charged more that will probably end up funding dodgy contracts...
Well its clearly a luxury item
Tory clowns are a complete joke.
WTAF
What planet are this government on in the peak of the second wave.
One more thing, I guess this book was top of the Tory’s Lockdown reading list
Class Action lawsuit anyone?
This has to be a sick joke. This is like April 1st/Groundhog Day rolled into one. One day I wake to see Tories vote to snatch food from hungry children, now they’re making PPE unaffordable for the worst off!
After robbing the treasury the scumtorys required more money to give out to their mates in the form of bullshit contracts.
This is the most ridiculous piece of pennypinching. Does Rishi know?
I’ve given up being surprised at anything this government does. I am however perpetually appalled.
ByRobDavies How have care homes saved £300M? They would just reclaim the VAT as part of their quarterly VAT Return.
Is this what the empire on which sun never set, that gave us industrial rev and some of the greatest scientists has been reduced to. Putting tax on PPE during global pandemic. England may have ruled over my country but I wouldn't wish this on even enemy countries.
Not a day goes by without the Tories confirming what a bunch of callous Bastards they are!
Nothing to see here, just a murderously incompetent tory government putting VAT back on PPE in a pandemic!
One assumes that they're not essential items now.
CCHQPress I didn't realise that PPE was a luxury, keep up the good work :-)
Cretins.
Guys we need a policy to distract from the free school meals debacle ....
Yeah, those are clearly luxury items. A whim.
The best thing to do in a middle of a pandemic 🤦
Another bad decision
Lol these mfs really want to play with fire huh?
Good. Time to pay back the credit card
