Transport Secretary sticks it to Andy Burnham for supporting rail strikes and the mayor is NOT happy

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has called for transport workers to 'reconsider' strike action - and slammed Mayor Andy Burnham for supporting workers over pay deals. Mr Burnham's office have responded to the scathing attack by questioning Mr Shapps' undermining of people’s right to fight for their income, and accused the Government of 'playing politics'.

Mr Shapps' comments have followed widespread strike action among rail and bus workers, with further walk-outs planned for this month and next month. Workers at eight rail firms are due to strike on July 30, while Network Rail and 14 train operating companies are to go on strike for two more days in August, in a move that will hit passengers again.

He added: "And, contrary to what some have claimed, I want a growing railway where workers receive a decent annual pay rise. We also have been clear that, under our reforms, any station which is currently staffed will remain so." He added: "We’re turning the current railway model on its head. Great British Railways will be the guiding mind the industry has long called for. We’re replacing the broken franchising model and getting a grip on spiralling costs. A ticketing revolution will see simpler and more flexible fares, digital ticketing and increased pay as you go services.

This is the man who wanted to use Greater manchesters police , fire, ambulance to do baggage abd security at manchester Airport. The man behind clearing homeless of streets who brought a building for 60 which opened in oct 19 and closed nov 19 due to building being Dangerious.

He is correct, everything Burnham touchs turns to dogsht , CAZ, homelessness, really cra bikes and scooters that end up littering the streets or at the bottom of the canals, should be removed from office for his persistent lying

AndyBurnhamGM MayorofGM Wants to lower bus fares whilst simultaneously increasing drivers' pay. Should anyone ever require a quintessential example as to Labour's inability to grasp the most rudimentary elements of fiscal management, then here you go!

Doesn’t believe in Democracy ,No consultation , his way or the highway

AndyBurnhamGM you've a lot of explaining to do to the people for your actions (or lack of) in Greater Manchester on a lot of subjects. Your waffling will not and does not cut the mustard!!! scrapyou!!!

Time to scrap hajng a mayor in GM ,its not working ,costs a fortune, and we voted against having one in the first place

The worst mayor in the history of Manchester. His pitch was I’ll give you the police force you deserve another labour lier in training for party leader.

That last sentence about the government playing politics describes AndyBurnhamGM to a tee.

Should stick to his own job and focus on the grooming and CSE gangs😡

And you really think ‘Sticks it to’ is mature and responsible reporting which is what we expect of you. Please live up to the standards of a major regional newspaper.

He’s no mayor he’s a bulb

Doncaster Sheffield Airport: Public ownership an option, minister saysDoncaster Sheffield Airport could be taken over by the regional mayor, the transport secretary says. Typical Grant Shapps. Hasn’t got a clue. Teesside isn’t successful and neither would DSA under public ownership. Where do we draw the line? There’s a cost of living crisis going on! I wonder if they regret sponsoring the sheffield steelers arena now? I'm sure that money could have been better spent
