Coronavirus: Traffic levels 'now double the lockdown low'

Traffic has gradually increased since early April, as travel restrictions have eased and hundreds of thousands of people have returned to work.

Mr Cousens said:"The message to avoid public transport is certainly resonating as, week by week, more people have ventured out in their cars." "As shops re-open, while hairdressers and other up-close occupations prepare to return in early July, traffic could reach pre-lockdown levels by the end of July," Mr Cousens said.Mike Childs, head of science at Friends of the Earth, said:"Any decline in emissions during enforced lockdown will be for nought if levels ramp back up.

........and all the bicycles are returned to the back of the garage never to be seen again

Nice to see the usual amount of traffic on the roads!!! At last!!! Wooooooo hoooooo 😉 👍

Everyone is back at work..... people are going shopping again!!! N heading to the beaches!! N Nice days out in the safety manner!! BORIS JOHNSON said do what you like but keep safe....so what do you expect.... Wooooooo hoooooo 😉👍

Gooooood 😎💪

Yes, because we have to live and work again.

This is a new level of stupid...... by the way, i love diesel

Am I the only to note the number of cars hogging lane two whilst lane one is empty?

Considering the traffic levels at the lockdown low was almost non-existent, double the number is hardly any more. BBC once again putting out doom and gloom stories without merit.

Sun rises in the east.

No one’s changing their habits. Everyone will be booking flights soon. Pollution will be high again, birdsong a distant memory ... sad but true 😞

Obviously 🤔

Most businesses are open and in England you can travel by motor vehicle over any distance to take exercise or meet people outside so traffic will increase. Good to get the economy moving.

Wow the bbc is employing sherlock Holmes, and why not, got to spend their free money on something

Weird how that works..

Majority of pollution is industry, not personal travel...

Good. Expected if the economy is to recover.

Hello

Good.

Bring back the lockdown permanently.

Hate sitting in traffic. I always get run over .

not really helping to justify the licence fee with this statement of the obvious journalism are we. endlockdownuk Plandemic COVID1984 DefundTheBBC

This is so dumb, there aren’t as many cars on the road because there isn’t as many people going to work. If and when I go back to work i’m not riding my bike 20miles everyday in all weathers.

So, what d'you want? Clear all traffic off the roads again? Back into lockdown? FFS, BBC. Report news, not fucking 'how scared should we be?' bollocks, eh? It's what you get paid for.

Because for all intents and purposes the lockdown is over. The moment you open all shops is the moment the lockdown is done

Great

And...here...we...go

Wow you’re joking, government told us to stay home we did, now they say return to work, if you can but avoid public transport. Now we have double the traffic on the road than when we were all staying home. Was this an unexpected outcome to the government relaxation of lockdown?

Coronavirus: Freedoms 'now double the lockdown low' Suicides 'now half the lockdown high' Domestic abuse 'slowly reverting to pre-lockdown levels' Business 'still fucked post-lockdown unless online, or a mall/retail park'

No shit.

Because significantly more people are back at work, more shops are open and the Prime Minister is flat out telling people to go out and shop?

People have returned to work so this was expected

That is a surprise. 🙄
