Nottingham City Council says it still wants to close the market down in the coming months

People having sex, using drugs and stealing are among incidents reported at the Victoria Centre Market in recent months as one trader says they need "eyes in the back of their head." Ahead of the historic venue's imminent closure, which Nottingham City Council says it is still planning to go ahead with this summer, some of the remaining traders say they can't even leave their stands unattended to go to the toilet.

This date came and went with no further certainty and it was eventually confirmed that negotiations had fallen through with Global Mutual, the asset managers of the Victoria Market.

"We have probably lost about £150 worth in the last few weeks, but it's just something we have to keep an eye out for. This is the third generation of my partner's family business and he doesn't want to let them down, so we keep it going."
