Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and England legend Jimmy Greaves has died at the age of 81, confirmed by Spurs on Sunday morning

‘Jimmy passed away at home in the early hours of this morning , aged 81.’‘Rest in peace, Jimmy.’Greaves scored an incredible 266 goals in just 381 games for Tottenham from 1961-70, also netting 132 goals in 169 games for Chelsea from 1957-61.

His international record was remarkable as well, scoring 44 times for England and he was part of the squad that won the World Cup in 1966. He also had spells at AC Milan – where he won the Serie A title in 1962 – and West Ham before finishing his career at Barnet.After his stunning playing career, Greaves went on to host Saint and Greavsie alongside Ian St John from 1985 to 1992 on ITV, a hugely popular football show which saw the two men chat through issues in the game and the day’s action.The official England account tweeted: ‘We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jimmy Greaves at the age of 81.

‘Jimmy was part of our @FIFAWorldCup-winning squad and scored a remarkable 44 goals in 57 games for the #ThreeLions.We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jimmy Greaves at the age of 81.
