Gen Milley's comments were the first US acknowledgment of claims China tested a hypersonic missile.

The top US general has said China's suspected hypersonic missile test is close to a Sputnik moment, referring to the Soviet satellite launch that sparked the Cold War arms race.

"I don't know if it's quite a Sputnik moment, but I think it's very close to that. It has all of our attention."His comment is the first official acknowledgement by the US of claims that China conducted two missile tests over the summer. Reports indicate that it was a nuclear-capable missile that could evade US air defence systems.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby refused to comment on the general's remarks at a Wednesday briefing, saying: "This is not a technology that is alien to us, that we haven't been thinking about for a while." Gen Milley also warned that the Chinese military has grown "from a peasant-based infantry army that was very, very large in 1979 to a very capable military that covers all the domains and has global ambitions".

Must be all them military bases surrounding them making them fell paranoid.

Hundreds of nuclear test in the Nevada desert and Bikini Atoll, must've had a similar effect on the rest of the world while the US & Russia did the Atomic dance during the cold War, nukes in Cuba etc. America's intentions are to stop any 3rd world country from developing WMD's.

Interesting story of David and Goliate watch the space 🤔

First Covid, now super nukes — thanks Chinese Communist Party, we needed something else to worry about .

Top U.S. General paid top dollar to conclude 'cold war is cold'.

Concerning because if America get involved it'll be another pointless war that just likes to flex and at the end of it walks away without a win again

Chinese food surely is better. Launch or breakfast.

Why aren't BBC reporting events in Ukraine & Syria? You're becoming ever more irrelevant.

Good to know that USA is not the only big boy on the block anymore!

Wait what? you mean the Chinese general did not call Milley about the impending launch?

China has been flexing their muscle in HK and Taiwan and south seas. The USA is a mess right now, don’t see how they can counter effectively.
