’ Sir Keir is has been struggling to maintain discipline within the party over the Israel-Hamas war, with at least 16 shadow ministers calling for a ceasefire or sharing others on social media. Around 30 councillors have resigned over Labour’s stance on the crisis, including the leader of Burnley council. Mr Hussain said he unequivocally condemned Hamas’ October 7 attack but said this could not ‘become a right to violate international law on protecting civilians or to commit war crimes’.
