Alison Varley says she does not know if the last was to be her last Christmas

Alison Varley, 42, will start her first round of chemotherapy on Monday as she continues to battle goblet cell carcinoma. Alison, from Ossett, was referred to three different hospitals following her diagnosis in 2021 - six months after her second daughter, Delilah was born.

It was found the cancer had started in Alison's appendix and then travelled into her bowel, ovary and rectum. She said: "It's rare upon rare upon rare. There is no one with my cancer. The genetic make-up of it is like no other in the world. There are people with goblet cell, but not the genetic make up.

She said: "St Christies were saying the immunotherapy was doing amazing, but here at St James' they didn't want the risk of putting me back on it and getting a reaction." Monday will be the first time doctors have tried to treat Alison's condition with chemotherapy. She said: "I'm absolutely terrified. I'm scared for my kids. Even now they are at home and they love mummy, of course they do, and I just see Daisy, 'Mummy, why are you still at the doctors, mummy, why aren't you coming home?'

She said: "You're not allowed to reapply for six months. When I was at work I was on sick and we got right down to the brakes but couldn't apply again for six months. My mother-in-law and father-in-law helped with childcare because we couldn't afford it. I don't know how my mind dealt with it to be honest."

"She says If she has a little nest egg she can still pay her gas and electric and order a shop." Alison said the family qualified for Universal Credit, which they needed for childcare support, and was sent £249 - but then told they had to pay it back because they "shouldn't have given us it".
