Rishi Sunak has offered his condolences to the family and friends of the five men who lost their lives aboard Titan.
Asked if the company is liable for negligence, Mr Sohnlein said he was not"qualified to answer" as he left the firm 10 years ago. Mr Sohnlein, who left the firm in 2013, tells Sky News Mr Rush - who died in the implosion of Titan - was a"talented engineer" and a"keen risk manager". "I would say disregarding standard ways of building these types of submersible in pursuit of innovation has huge elements of risks and in this case that risk has been realised in the loss of people's lives."
In a statement, the company said"with heavy hearts and great sadness, we grieve the loss" of the two men."Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dawood family at this tragic time," the statement read. The president extended his sympathies to the loved ones of the lost passengers and said he hopes their loss"galvanizes the world, once again, to ensure the safety of those in peril on the sea".
In a letter to OceanGate - the company that owns the missing sub - his organisation had warned that a"single negative event" could undo an"enviable" safety track record that spanned 40 years.
