A "relentless screeching" in both ears is the reality of every day life for Belfast man Liam Weldon. The condition is described as a ringing in the ears, the sensation of hearing a sound with no external source and its impact on daily life can be huge.Mr Weldon first experienced tinnitus alongside hearing loss in 2018 whilst on holiday celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary.
Someone living with the condition can hear a range of noises from ringing, buzzing, whooshing or humming.
I suffer with this. It is usually like an untuned radio but occasionally like hundreds of small birds tweeting. It has become that annoying constant background music that I mostly ignore. The hearing aids help. I can sleep but sometimes it makes it difficult to return to sleep.
It must be a nightmare every July 12 having to listen to all dat bigoted shte!
When you walk down a street and see a tv on in a bedroom late at night, the person probably has tinnitus….that’s how I live with it, can’t sleep otherwise.
This is all going in 1 👂and out the other ..
I've had tinnitus since the early 70s, it comes in 3 distinctive tones, on a high pitched screeching, one a constant hiss, and one a low tone that reminds me of some motor running.
Tinnitus is also a well know vaccine injury. I wonder if he is vaccinated?
Mine started when I got married and had two kids.
Mines started with a heartbeat. Now I get bells, bangs, constant buzzing. Really affects my social life these days. Probably the worst condition to have as it can't be cured
'My tinnitus always wants to be louder so it's really difficult in certain circumstances' the other person also found her tinnitus increased with external sound.....then Nic Wray talks about using sound therapy to distract It may help some...Can we develop better treatments?
JMBaldam It's ruined any social life I had, terrible condition , can't sleep unless radio is on
I have had Tinnitus for 40 years. I have learned not to listen to it. The worst time is going to bed. I concentrate on a memory or a dream until I fall asleep. If you listen to it,it gets worse. Hearing aids have helped as well, it puts it to the back. Audiology can help you.
The opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan replicate it nicely.
I’ve suffered with tinnitus in both ears for well over 35 years. Whilst it can be debilitating and restrictive toward selected social activities such as visits to pubs, restaurants and cinemas, it’s a condition that you can learn to live with.
