With sit-down dining now off the menu in much of England, restaurant owners say they're facing a difficult Christmas.

Tier 3 restrictions mean Kuldeep Mattegunta and Mustaq Tappewale won't be able to launch their new restaurant on Wednesday as planned.

Under tier 3 rules, pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes can only serve takeaways. From Wednesday, London, parts of Essex and Hertfordshire, will join other parts of the country already under the highest level of restrictions."So many pubs, restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels, having invested so much to make their venues safe, are only just clinging on by the skin of their teeth, but will be forced to take another huge hit," said the group's chief executive Kate Nicholls.

"The run up to Christmas is always important for our industry - more so than some - and obviously now that's been written off," he said. "It's very frustrating. You feel like you're making steps forward and then you take 10 steps back. Staff just want to be at work."Greater Manchester was put into tier 3 on 23 October, but the region has had restrictions on groups meeting indoors since July, and that's taken a huge toll on hospitality businesses.

Mr Wood also owns a restaurant in Cheltenham called WoodKraft, which is currently in tier 2, but he says government-imposed curfews have presented another challenge. He offers a 10-course tasting menu over four hours, so he can only fit in one sitting each evening. And, social distancing rules mean he can only offer customers tables of two.

LOL

Look at melbourne strict lock down, now look.. free to go where they please. My daughter lives in Milbourne, so far allowed to travel and have a brake...

It can easily be suggested that this is being done by design... whilst lining the pockets of the major companies & globalists. Supported by this here BBC biased and bought.

What a shame

This is sad but you will hopefully be able to fulfil your dream in the future. Those who have died through covid won’t be able to come back, that includes 7,000 under 60’s (in 9 months) not to mention those suffering from long COVID so please ‘man up’ and plan your future.

Yes and our Country will now follow your pathway to government dependence. Welcome to The New World Order

Just goes to show how arrogant these Londoners are that they never saw this coming- open a restaurant in a pandemic = nutters

Why open a restaurant at the peak of a pandemic? You get what you deserve.

Tier system is a shamble ! To make it work .. shutdown everything like when it was way back in March ! People actually were washing their hands then .. now ? People don’t selfishly don’t care ... as long as someone else dies it won’t affect them.

There own fault ! Incompetence ! Why bother trying to open a restaurant when we are in a pandemic !!! Common sense says they should of waited ! Incompetence that's all

And for most people 😡

Southern softies thinking they’re the only people it affects 😴

Who opens a bloody restaurant in the middle of a pandemic ffs? The hospitality sector is decimated and these two dafty decide to open a new one!

BOO HOO!

Where was the mass coverage of the same issues when the North was locked down?

BBC beyond parody now! 😆

Restauranteurs are the real victims of 2020.

Do take out orders . . . Good food sells itself . . . Works in our town ‼️

I'm going to open a buisness during a pandemic what could go wrong?

This is utterly insane. The cure is worse than the disease.

No a virus which is killing 10's of 1,000's is what's ruined it

Your dream? 1) doesn't count 2) the real dream is the GreatReset of wef Klaus Schwab 3) who has convinced Prince Charles RoyalFamily to crush his future kingdom so it can be BuildBackBetter 4) That is like nuking London to rebuild it better 5) What's next? Revolution?

I think you’ll find it was a worldwide pandemic 😷

Boo hoo sick of all these business moaning about money when people are dying. How selfish and distasteful.

Theres more to worry about that your Restaurant Opening ,people are dying due to this Covid 19 ,guys please get over it you can open your Restaurant at a later date .

You mean covid has

Close it all down.

Oh come on! Anyone opening a hospitality venue this year is downright crazy.

Saving lives is more important. Typical entitled mellenial crying about their “dreams”

Covid and the covidservatives under Flaccid Johnson have ruined every bodies life ...

So some areas in the south go into tier 3. Boo hoo. Deal with it. Most people’s dreams have been shattered this year, one way or another. BY COVID-19, not tier 3 🙄It’s been only a matter of days, and the whinging coming from the south is getting boring. Try being in the north😣

The BBC going on like they care🤦‍♀️

Poor Londoners. 🙄

But you expect the families of dead relatives, to just get over it so you can make a profit. NICE PEOPLE.

Why the heck were they planning to open a new restaurant in a pandemic with a global recession?

Hello PANDEMIC, HORRIFIC DEATHS, VIRULENT, CONTAGIOUS. Maybe if you worked in hospitals and risked your own lives every day you'd know reality

Mean while in the north ...

But your healthy and others are alive

Why are you planning on opening a restaurant during a world wide pandemic?

Not Tier 3 - the pandemic did -

Apart from ruining your dream restaurant opening, the farmers lost their opportunities planting more crops that they would like to sell to the destination countries which were the farmers' target, and the workers lost their jobs because of the incompetence of the employers.

Blame Boris and his mates in China.

Appreciate your problem, but a strange time to be opening a restaurant during a pandemic.

Finally joined what we in the Midlands have been struggling with for months. Still, at least you're not dying. Nothing more important than health.

But at least you are alive?

Tradge!

Boris ruined your dream by not locking down immediately Brexit him

Sad but it is life you are not alone

They hadn't heard of the global pandemic which has caused several lockdowns and meant bars and restaurants have had to close and received 24/7 blanket coverage in the media?

The BBC, influencing by omission. No challenge to Tier 3 as 'an illogical tactic that fails to tackle Covid effectively”. No comment on low government funding to support businesses. It’s as if you want to position Tier 3 as capriciously destructive. How very ERG of you.

Tier 2 will ruin it more. No indoor mixing in winter means no customers. And no grants to help with rent/bills etc. Furlough for staff, but NI and pension still has to be paid by the employer. Like being able to open, but keeping the door locked.

I think these lads need a 2nd chance, surely if we can find the money for the greedy rich we can help these lads out.

😭😭😭 we are in the south and our venture has struggled and it's the government's fault, we didn't know there was a virus affecting the world! where have the reports been involving northern businesses?

Opening a restaurant in the current conditions? Maybe business isn’t for you 🤷‍♂️

Surely it is Covid 19 that has done this?

Launching a new restaurant in a pandemic where hospitality is worst hit. 🤦🏻‍♂️ get some strategic business training.

Only idiots would plan a restaurant opening during an unpredictable time, and then throw in a pandemic..... No sympathy from me. They have made their own decisions, now stand by them. Don’t go around moaning about it. 🤡

I'd guess the families of those 63,908 (as of writing) who have died of Covid-19 are facing a worse Christmas.

Your poor planning ruined the dream! Who opens a business like this during a pandemic?

I’m not even bothering to read this article, it’s ruined a lot of people dreams - they aren’t the only ones!! At least they’re still alive to keep having those dreams.

Keep dreaming

Awe. The only people affected by covid19 and lockdowns. How did the bbc find these unique people?

OffMenuOfficial

The tier system is an invention of China's CCP, suckers

Opening a restaurant in the current climate sounds like a scam.

Opening a restaurant during a pandemic🤔

Plan a new restaurant during a pandemic in your country then complain? Really ? Tough.

It's not very smart to open a restaurant during a pandemic.

I would venture that the virus has ruined your dream restaurant opening.

Headline news ...... when it happens in London. Where was this publicity for all the Manchester venues in a similar position over the last 5 months?

I would love to introduce you to binary trade options, it's a really lucrative way of earning consistent income weekly with just little investments and it doesn't require any experience, Would you be interested? Just send me a DM let start

Whats more important opening a restaurant or trying to save lives

Who would try and open a new restaurant at this time? Just seems like poor management and they shouldn’t ever open a restaurant.

I just don’t get why hospitality is being the scapegoat. Shops open, gyms open, kids playgrounds open, beauty salons and hairdressers open. It does not make any sense.

The bank manager overseeing their 5 year business plan.

Ok

Cut your losses and develop some kind of drug problem.

Northern problems.. Msm dont give s flying fuck Hsppens 6 months later in London and its fucking news. North south divide is real. Dont let tbe shandy drinkers blag you differently

Covid-19 has ruined many things and taken or seriously harmed many lives, if you have a dream nothing will stand in its way just delay it.

Not to be that guy, but why would you open a restaurant in this current climate? Silly business plan

Give the food to food banks. To ESSENTIAL workers. To passersby.

Planning to open a restaurant in London? In December 2020? That has to fall somewhere between ballsy and reckless.

A tabloid headline! There is a pandemic and millions have died.

Tier 3 and LD has killed off many a non food pub too.. where was the concern for them? theyearthatneverwas

Run a brothel

Pretty sure 2020 did that. Framing it in this way is pretty bad of the BBC, no? How many Northern restaurants have been there for weeks now?

I really feel for hospitality, they are being blamed unfairly, but FFS don’t open a restaurant a year into a pandemic.

Why the BBC reporting this? There the main ones who fuel the lockdowns! These 2 are just a couple of the 1,000s the government have fuked over.

Situations are Dynamic, but the Brain is Robust. Explore Take-Out Possibilities, you're not brain dead.

Why continue to open a restaurant during a pandemic, FFS!

Conservative Cronyism has ruined the U.K.

Shouldn't that be, 'a worldwide pandemic that has killed millions has ruined our dream opening?'

No evidence lockdowns work. But 100% evidence of the unrelenting non- stop misery they cause

Don’t worry the rate we’re going we won’t have any hospitality Venues to go to

We feel really sorry for you With no sincerity The north
