A petition which claims fining parents for taking kids on term time holidays discriminates against low-income and additional needs families has been signed by thousands of parents

All parents of school-age children will know that getaways in the school holidays are expensive. It can add hundreds, or even thousands to the cost if you travel in prime time, compared to term-time travel.

For this reason, parents have banded together and are demanding the government does something about it. The petition, which is listed on the government website says that the government policy of fining parents for taking their kids on holiday during term time discriminates against low-income families and children with additional needs.

‘This can be a particular issue for low-income families, and families with children that have additional needs, who want or need to avoid busier and more expensive periods.
