About 16,000 households and businesses in the Brixham area of Devon, supplied by South West Water (SWW), were told not to use their tap water for drinking without boiling and cooling it first.

SWW has recently increased its compensation to £215 for homeowners and businesses affected by the outbreak. Thousands of households are still relying on bottled water after a damaged air valve leaked harmful bacteria into the water supply. He said: 'I am absolutely determined to see SWW pay Brixham town's businesses, the community and residents the money it deserves for this disastrous week.'

Two people have been taken to hospital following the parasite outbreak Secretary Steve Barclay confirmed. Responding to the water company's announcement that thousands of households can now safely drink their tap water, he said: 'The illness suffered and inability to access safe drinking water has been totally unacceptable.

'But the other thing is, Brixham is still open for business and it needs support now, more so than ever.' He said his business was 'following all the guidance' to ensure visitors' safety, adding: 'So we're trying everything we can to make sure that when guests do come that they feel comfortable and they feel safe.

Referring to SWW, she added: 'They knew they had this problem - obviously the reservoir couldn't cope for some reason or another, it was getting all the stuff off the field into it. 'They have taken our money which we have given them in good faith to invest in infrastructure and in water supply and none of that has happened. It has simply gone to benefit their shareholders and drive their corporate greed and profiteering.'

The 70s singer's comments come after it was rveealed that the boss of Pennon, which owns South West Water, has raked in £4million since taking the top job in 2020, MailOnline can reveal today.Amid mounting public anger over sewage being dumped into Britain's rivers and lakes, Susan Davy took home more than half a million pounds last year.
