A drop-off in screening and referrals means fewer people are being diagnosed, a cancer charity says.

Delays in diagnosing and treating people with cancer could lead to more years of lost life than with Covid-19, according to a leading cancer expert.

Cancer screening has paused in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with few invitations sent out in England. But Richard Sullivan, professor of cancer and global health at King's College London, said there was more fear of Covid-19 than of having cancer at the moment. With GPs more difficult to contact than normal, this was resulting in a"dramatic drop-off" in referrals to specialists, he said.

With cancer patients generally much younger, Prof Sullivan predicted"years of lost life will be quite dramatic" on top of"a huge amount of avoidable mortality".Maggs Bailey doesn't know if her skin cancer has spread because of a cancelled appointment Maggs says she completely understands that the NHS is under immense pressure with coronavirus, but wonders if the right decisions are being made. She is now considering private surgery.

Let’s keep the lockdown 😣😣😣😣

This is key. We need much more coverage of this. More people will die of cancer than COVID19 if diagnosis and treatment are not restored soon.

Forced to risk their lives for the lives of the ‘vulnerable’. It’s a paradox.

1) It's not that dangerous 2)There's a cure hydroxychloroquine+ 3)Therefore no need for testing, social distancing, lockdowns, and absolutely not Bill Gates' vaccine.

Such a ripple effect with regards to absolutely everything because of this damn virus . I personally think it’s because people are to scared to go to any hospital . Sad times indeed 😓

Put those staff dancing on experience equipment around the empty units to work!,and get people essential sick people seen

At last. For the bigger picture start monitoring indirect deaths caused by lockdown, social distancing measures, and economic recession. Remember that what you measure is often achieved to the detriment of what is not measured.

Or blame the tests being wrong 6 times and have your mental health go bonkers ehh? PSA

They've made time to reheat and do the hacker and dance around though....I'm embarrassed for em..I think this new NHS love in is going to there heads in a lot of cases

I think you mean left to die. The British government has completely, and utterly failed the tax payer who pay for the NHS, it's not for free and never was. Free prescriptions isn't worth this grief either, I'd rather save for a good lawyer & a ticket outta here..Again
