Washington D.C. is a hotbed of opposing activity these days but one unifying point of opinion comes in the form of Thompson Hotel’s first property in the capital. Located in the city’s Navy Yard neighbourhood and home to 225 rooms and suites, the hotel is poised to become a hub for congregation set alongside waterfront views.

Designed by New York-based Studios Architecture, the 11-floor hotel boasts a highly textured façade and large industrial windows, which together cut an eye-catching figure in the more industrial surroundings. Part of a larger redevelopment, The Yards, which encompasses high-end residences, cultural attractions, retail and restaurants, Thompson Washington D.C.

Riffing off the hotel’s unique location and Thompson’s signature mid-century modern aesthetic, guest rooms deftly mix industrial patterns and naval motifs with a clean, minimalist finish. Warm textures such as mélange wool boucle upholstery are mixed with green onyx vanity tops and dark oak wood paneling for a refined yet welcoming atmosphere, while look out onto either the Anacostia River or Nationals Park.

While the accommodations are certainly inviting, what’s bound to be the hit of the hotel is its signature restaurant, Maialino Mare, conceived as the coastal sister to Maialino in New York. Focused on seafood pastas and other dishes seasonally sourced from local farmers and fishmongers, the new outpost delivers a satisfying nod to the Italian tradition while rooted in the city’s local community.

We've known this for months and still the Twitter Tin-Foil Hat brigade are sticking with it. I wouldn’t believe anything that any government would say in this anyhow. If it was engineered they wouldn’t admit it anyhow even if it was from another country.
