The real issue here is that some L/L rent crap housing; and some students create their own crap. In the age if 'deregulation' this is what you get. Crap. Councils have powers to stop it - but not enough qualified EnvironmentalHealth staff to do it. Some LAs prevent inspections!
Most students don’t clean the properties they rent. They seem to have real issues with cleaning their own poo off the toilet bowl, and seem to believe in the magic cleaning fairy will come along later and do it for them. Not cleaning the bathroom leads to mold and mildew.
Generations put up with squalid student digs for years. Guess the latest crop are a little more sensitive.

Alot of damp and mould can be avoided. By opening up window for air. And not drying clothes on radiators and leaving windows closed

Student accommodation has always been shit. I had mice running around my bedroom & the curtains would freeze to the windows. Happy days in Manchester!

Lol, I was in Halls for 3 years, there was Mould on the wall of my room and someone left a turd in the shared bath. You get pissed and ignore it. My old hall has been condemned, my liver outlived it. Student life is shit accomodation and booze. Period.
How about the people who live under subways and in shop doorway, how do you think they feel

Snow flakes
In the 80s I lived in a house in East London that was so damp a huge mushroom - like a giant’s ear - grew out of the lounge wall. We shut the door on it. Oh and the bugs in the walls fed on wallpaper paste and poked their legs out of the seems between the sheets. Nowt new here.

Student slumlords have been operating for years and are an absolute disgrace. They need shutting down and their assets stripping. So many are taking advantage of young students and intimidating them when they speak up.
Don’t cry about it join the housing unions setting up across every student town.
