Hell of a week ahead

The Prime Minister is already battling to stay in power after a weekend of rumours some Cabinet ministers were plotting a ‘coup’ to oust her.

MPs will today vote on a crucial amendment – tabled by former ministers Sir Oliver Letwin and Dominic Grieve and Labour MP Hilary Benn – seeking to seize control of parliamentary business. May will convene her Cabinet this morning, a day after Environment Secretary Michael Gove and her de facto deputy David Lidington both denied a plan to replace her as PM.

Labour MP Hilary Benn joined former ministers Sir Oliver Letwin and Dominic Grieve to table the motion for indicative votes MPs were reported to have told May she must set out a timetable for her departure if she wants to get her plan through the Commons. Boris Johnson arrives at Chequers for the emergency meeting with the Prime Minister before writing in The Telegraph that she had ‘bottled it’ over Brexit
