Arts venues have been hit hard by the pandemic and are still unable to stage live performances. In the second part of a new series, we celebrate their essential role

‘It feels like an electric current into the audience’ Paul Chahidi: I’ve always loved seeing a play at Shakespeare’s Globe where the best view in the house costs only £5. It’s also where I got many of my earliest breaks as an actor. Performing a play there is unlike anywhere else. Walking out on to the stage for the first entrance, the jig at the end, the roar of the crowd , the palpable excitement – it all feels more like being at a rock concert than a play.
