Located in the basement of Manchester Cathedral’s Visitor Centre is a rare example of architecture from the Middle Ages. Listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the Hanging Ditch bridge dates back to 1421. It was originally built to link the cathedral to the city centre.

The Undamaged Red Post Box This small bright red post box survived the 1996 Manchester bombing virtually unscathed. When a 3,300-pound IRA bomb exploded in the centre of Manchester on June 15, 1996, this post box survived almost unscathed by the blast. It became a small but mighty symbol for resilience in the face of terrorism.
