'What is so staggering is how the candidates have all unveiled their farcical, cringe-worthy campaign videos, policy package after policy package, and reliably failed to mention the climate every single time.' ✍️ CarolineLucas for MetroOpinion

The candidates have all unveiled their farcical, cringe-worthy campaign videos, policy package after policy package, and reliably failed to mention the climate every single time If you’re feeling the heat this week, spare a thought for the Tory leadership candidates.

Kemi Badenoch claimed at her leadership launch on Tuesday morning that net zero amounted to ‘unilateral economic disarmament’. What is so staggering is how the candidates have all unveiled their farcical, cringe-worthy campaign videos, policy package after policy package, and reliably failed to mention the climate every single time.

That’s right – the target that every single Tory MP signed up to in their 2019 election manifesto. But a bold vision to tackle the climate emergency? Don’t make me laugh. And crucially, the solutions to the climate crisis are exactly what people up and down the country are looking for: a street-by-street home insulation programme to slash spiralling energy bills; investment in clean, green, home-grown renewables to deliver long-term energy security; and the creation of hundreds of thousands of high-skilled, well-paid green jobs in the process.

Just ask Tory MP Chris Skidmore, and Lord Goldsmith, whose joint piece in the Daily Telegraph implored their party to smell the coffee and throw its weight behind net zero.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion Because they don't understand it..... Don't forget, they're only politicians

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion slightly more important things concerning people at the moment than the climate

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion I find it odd they need to campaign, in a work place of 350 I got elected as a shop steward with out so much as a hustings, I only stood because I though no one was actually representing me,and I didn't belive in unopposed elections

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion They know their electorate and it's a race to the bottom to secure their votes.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion I don’t think their target market give a flying f about climate change. Most won’t be around when it really hits and they’re not renowned for being caring/sharing sorts, bye-&-large.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion That’s because the general drift is to accelerate global warming. Cruella for instance pledging to ‘pause’ the commitment to net zero. Tories are an outreach organisation for American Republicanism, firmly in the pockets of the fossil-fuel industries.

gajido_ian CarolineLucas MetroOpinion There’s not enough ‘profit potential’ in climate change at the moment for them. When one of their Eton school friends wants to invest in it, things will change.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion As we see a climate emergency before our eyes. The Tories have their Pimm's and hats and it will all be fine.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion Only one ……

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion Ohhh God … what a bunch… just a bunch of real lookers… could we not have someone at least presentable, who takes piss of us all for a change… I know very superficial but I don’t care

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion None of the above will last very long.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion The environment isn’t a selling point for the old grey suits and blue rinses that are going to choose the next PM.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion It’s not that staggering when you consider the audience for their campaigns is the bowls clubs of Kent. Climate policy is a vote loser among the only people who matter in this race.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion Tax cuts for the wealthy. Nothing on the climate crisis or the cost of living.

DrRJWarren CarolineLucas MetroOpinion because the climate is not in crisis...and we remain a temperate climate. stop scaremongering.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion They will have done their homework on the 100,000 and honed their campaign accordingly. They are the same people who gave us BJ, so warm nicely hard right policies and downright lies.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion Moreover they're probably preying for a mild winter.

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion I think mordaunt did

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion Climate driven changes to energy policy are the real primary reason that we now have the energy crisis, the related inflation and the the related cost of living crisis. You want more!?

CarolineLucas MetroOpinion Says a lot about the electorate for this election though, depressingly.
