Having stood since 1896, Cathedral House is a historic building which has become known for housing a variety of ghosts and ghouls - but where did these rumours come from?

Thought to be one of the most haunted buildings in Glasgow, Cathedral House overlooks the city’s Necropolis.

When Barlinnie Prison opened in the ‘80s, many prisoners were moved there - though Duke Street remained open as a women’s prison until it was eventually demolished in the 1950s. The only remaining part of the prison that stands today is the boundary wall, which is shared with Cathedral House. On June 20, 1923, Susan was walking down the street with a large bundle carried on a cart. Locals noticed the strange pile, and alerted the police.

Aside from Duke Street Prison’s leftovers, the Necropolis is also said to have some spirits leaking over into the hotel. In fact, those who are brave enough can even book in for a tour of the Necropolis followed by a vigil at Cathedral House. Strange electromagnetic field and trifield readings were recorded, with visual anomalies appearing on footage as well as still photographs.
