The Repair Shop's Jay Blades' mental health crisis as medics rush to section him

The Repair Shop's Jay Blades has opened up about the lowest moment in his life, revealing that he tried to commit suicide and was nearly sectioned by medics after the failures of his marriage and business. The TV presenter appeared on Waitrose's Dish podcast, speaking to hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett about his life and career.

"And basically, I couldn't see myself being in tomorrow, if that makes sense. As I couldn't see myself being in tomorrow, what happened was I got in a car, got on the M40 and was looking for a bridge to crash into." "I went to a hotel, said to the geezer, ‘Oh look mate, I'm just gonna go get some shower gel and I'll come back, here's the money for the room but I smell a bit.’ And you normally know when you smell, because normally they tell you like, ‘Oh no, no, you don't smell.’ This geezer just stood back.

"They started interviewing me, and all this time I'm like, I wanted to take a shower, I need to have a bath, I stink. And it was only when they said to me, ‘Oh, we don't have to section him.’ And I was like, who are you sectioning? Because I'd done twenty years in community and I knew like what sectioning was," he said.
