The budget set in February announced that bills were to be frozen with leader Susan Aitken describing it as a 'no-brainer' - despite the £107 million budget blackhole.

Many Glaswegians have been left shocked after opening their council tax bills to find they have increased despite an announced freeze.

Council chiefs had been preparing to hike local rates by as much as 10 per cent in a desperate attempt to protect essential services at a time budgets have been hammered by inflation. However, the budget set in February announced that bills were to be frozen with leader Susan Aitken describing it as a "no-brainer" - despite the £107 million budget blackhole.

Scottish Water says the hike amounts to an increase of 70p a week or £35 a year on average. They say the increase is vital to provide 'significant investment to protect services' and tackle climate change impacts, population shift, and ageing infrastructure.
