Well, there’s a turn-up for the books! It was the Princess herself “what done it”! And, unfortunately for her, not very well.taken by her husband to mark Mothers’ Day. I’m sure she was just trying to capture the best images of each of them — as so many of us do. Getting three children to look at the camera, smile and pose in unison can be tricky at the best of times. So Catherine had a fiddle with the photo — and it all went spectacularly wrong.
Truth and trust are obviously paramount. But pictures have been doctored since the middle of the 19th century. Abraham Lincoln’s head was once superimposed on another man’s body; Queen Victoria’s pictures were sometimes enhanced to make her look younger, and the photographer who took official wedding photos of Edward and Sophie admitted he had digitally altered one shot because Prince William hadn’t looked happy enough.
Her cack-handed dabbling in picture editing has only served to fuel the furnace of conspiracy theories that her absence from public life has sparked. The internet is once again buzzing with preposterous, unsourced allegations about her illness and recovery. These need to be treated with the disdain they deserve. We cannot allow the hysterical and often bigoted musings of the Twittersphere and TikTok land to set the serious news agenda.
