The Passport Office fiasco shows the public sector treats us with contempt

Going anywhere nice for summer? Dear Lord, not you, too? So sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude on private grief. If there’s one phrase you can no longer use in polite company and is banned at the hairdresser’s, this is most definitely it. Why? Because millions of people are languishing in a wretched passport limbo with no idea whether they will be able to take that longed-for trip abroad this year.

'too focused on their work-life balance'. You mean they actually want to live a life rather than work 16 hours a day or whatever? Of course, you want to make it worse by adding commuting time.
