It is not often a three-hour, black-and-white Czech film makes headlines in the British tabloids, but The Painted Bird earned that dubious honour last year. “Sickened film-goers brawl to escape premiere of Holocaust epic Painted Bird featuring brutal scenes of incest, rape and mutilation,” screamed the Sun. It forgot to mention the bestiality, but others didn’t. The Daily Mail described the film as “a panoply of depravity”.

Kosiński, autor 'Malowanego ptaka'-obrzydliwy oszust. Zmyślił całą historię,a głupcy robią filmy.
I read this book long time ago. More than 30 years. It was hard but revealing. So well written! It shows the brutality, the lack of education, the naturalisation of violence. The geographical and historic context is just one among others. I am looking forward to watch the film.
Be skeptical.
In the movie is this fantasy-horror-land called Poland?
Anti-Slavic racism seems to be pretty popular in the anglosphere, this film based on lies.

“The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness.” --Joseph Conrad: Under Western Eyes
except it's a work of pure fiction
When a little child, maybe 13 or 14 i read this effective novel nd never forgetten plot esp.a bird, the same race but painted and not accepted so the worst end i started to think why?we all the children of the same God why we fight, injure hurt each other😔😢
'[The Painted Bird] has nothing to do with Jerzy Kosiński’s real childhood, he invented those horrors, while he himself experienced only good, while the villagers took the risk to hide his whole family. They deserve to be named Righteous Among the Nations'
Nabarvené ptáče je pravdivý film. Každá válka je krutá a nelidská. Režisér Václav Marhoul velmi dobře přenesl válečnou krutost na filmové plátno. Děkuji. 👍
humanity cannot handle the very truth it perpetuates.
CSS_Sporklab If there have been walkouts, that means it has been adapted faithfully, I imagine. 😮 I want to see it, thought maybe not during a pandemic. Poor Poland.
Read the book 30 yrs ago, still gives me nightmares. Hard pass, thank you anyway.
we are afraid of our own evil
