And the church only paid 1 million for their part.

Should this be a RICO case?

JoMajority Who get's the $4m?

So $32Mil, has to give up $4Mil and keeps the rest? Take it all, revoke tax exemption status

Horrible!

I sure miss when Time wasn't a liberal discontented rag.

Religion is dangerous

criminality paid by way of penalties? welcome to American justice

ahhh, nothing like justice, pay a fine and and you are fine, be poor and free no more.

Lol

I bet those who donated are pissed

This type of 'punishment', in all reality, is an incentive for organized crime! Shit, everyone should be doing it if this is all that happens. DOJ is pathetic. Exactly what's wrong with this criminal justice and tax system.

$4 million dollar penalty, Seriously!? That’s not even a deterrent for the Mormons or big corporations. The Mormons hid $32 billion, so the penalty should be $16 billion! 1/2 C’mon set an example!

Sounds like a corrupt organization

32 billions and a 4 millions penalty? The best biz in the history of biz.

Churches should be taxed .

Billion?...tax the churches

Intentional hiding $$$

Volcano worshipping,...

If I hide $32 Billion in assets, I too would be happy to pay a fine of $4M as the investment firm, and $1M as the church that owned the assets. What gives SEC?

These A-holes need to start paying taxes. What do they need this money for? Molesting children?

In case anyone is curious that penalty is 0.0001% of just the embezzled amount. Accountability is dead.

Tax them.

The most cruel crimes come from churches. Just try to g r is up as a catholic. Shall we

Tax these motherfuckas!

4 mil? Should be 4 billion! Plus criminal penalties. Terrible!

Damn those Mormons! Hiding assets from the government. They should be ashamed of themselves!

Slap on the wrist

Take away their tax exemptions.

Tax the churches. They get all the best real estate and screw the system. Stop harassing us sending money over PayPal. This is the leak.

What is that rate? 4,000,000 / 32,000,000,000? I’d like to pay that rate on my assets.

TAX COMMERCIAL RELIGION!

At least Osteen bought a Ferrari and a mansion as big as Cleveland. These guys passed the plate and then waited for Jesus to show up to give it to him...Really?

These 'Fraudulent Christians' need to pay their share. Such Hypocrites.

All Churches have been hiding under Church and State for their returns say it aint so like my Preacher said send me some of that Money you aren't supposed to take Church money outside of the Church tricky scenario aint it/like buying food for the hungry and gas for the needy clr

The equivalent of stealing 32 million dollars and paying a 4 dollar fine. What is wrong with this country.

JoMajority So $4 million for a $32 billion fraud. Sounds like they won’t have trouble paying that.

Another reason to tax the churches…all of them.

32 - 4 = $28,000,000 which is not at all bad for breaking the law. That seems to be the message to all other institutions planning to set up shell companies.

4 million for hiding 32 billion ? Lmao

These sick zealots are worse (if not equal to) the Church of Scientology.

That's a 0.000125% penalty

TAX ALL RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS

This is like if you stole $8K and had to pay back $1 as punishment.

Tax them.

$5 million penalty is significant. Now tithes are going to pay for penalties for willful violation of the law.

13 shell companies show large scale intent and organisation.. Not one bad apple here. How this Church can operate in giving any moral sermons in the future (if they do) is laughable..

TAX THE CHURCHES.

4 million $ WTF? For hiding billions?
