Keith Boyd is attempting to run from Cape Town to Cairo - known as the 'traditional route' across Africa - in fewer than 318 daysThe 27-year-old Briton entered the record books last Sunday as the first person to run the entire length of Africa, from its southern to northernmost point.
Before embarking on his current challenge, Mr Boyd – who has asthma and a genetic heart condition – had only ever run conventional marathons. In just nine months, Mr Boyd has made his way out of South Africa, through Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and into Egypt. After reaching Cairo, Mr Boyd, who is self-funded, plans to fly straight back to Ethiopia, picking up at the exact spot where he had to abort his first attempt at crossing the country, 200 miles north of Addis Ababa.“The South African government and diplomatic service have done an outstanding job of liaising with the Ethiopian government and arguing my case, so I’m hoping that’s going to yield some some fruit,” Mr Boyd said.
