There are many great Glasgow institutions that have gone the way of the dodo in recent decades, but there are certain names that will live on in our minds forevermore.

Glasgow has waved farewell to many legendary names in retail and leisure down the decades, with many having made such an indelible mark in the minds of locals that they'll forever be remembered.

A name that trips off the tongue. Every Glasgow local knows the Dennistoun Palais, regardless of their age. The famous dancehall was a rite of passage for courting couples in the 1950s and 1960s. Watt Brothers Opened in 1915, the iconic Watt Brothers store in Sauchiehall Street was one of the city's top fashion emporiums for over a century. It is sadly no more having gone the way of so many once great department stores.

St Enoch Station Hotel The St Enoch Station Hotel was not Glasgow's first station hotel, but with more than 200 bedrooms, 20 public rooms, it was certainly one of the grandest when it opened back in 1879. The beautiful edifice stood for 100 years and is now the site of the St Enoch Centre.
